Life happens when you listen. Let yourself learn from the moment.
I am trying to do that everyday. Listen. It’s really hard when my mind is racing to what the next moment should be. I don’t know but I subconsciously think that maybe if I think how it will be it will happen. How many times have I been disappointed in the outcome. And how pleasantly surprised I have been as well.
There are so many books written about enjoying the present. Be here now. Don’t worry so much about the past or the future. Neither one you can dictate. You can only learn from the past and plan for the future. Having ambition can be a blessing and a curse. Expectations can lead to disappointment which can lead to making decisions that will be made in haste. Better to listen to what needs to be for what’s best for your own happiness.
This all seems to be doable in theory. Now all I have to do, even at this stage in my life, is to apply all that I think I have learned. The key is to actually do it. There is something to be said for Nike’s “Just do it”.
But I can also listen to my softer voice of giving myself a break every once in a while. My past has dictated how I have lived my life regardless of having read the many books to tell me to let it go. And yet a part of me has learned from that and tried to push through regardless of how difficult. And I know that the future will be my responsibility and that I need to think about it and be proactive. It doesn’t mean I have to be stressed over things that are out of my control. I just need to learn the difference.
What I am hearing is that there must be a better way to manage all of it. The work, the downtime and the future. Life does happen when you listen. The key is to acknowledge that what I am hearing is the truth which will bring me home to my true self.
